About Onboarding

Onboarding · Step 1

Your characteristics

Before anything gets scored, WellPath needs a few basics about you: your date of birth, biological sex, ancestry, skin type, height, weight, and whether you train as an athlete. It's the smallest amount of information that makes everything else personal.

The Baseline Characteristics screen

If you sign up on your own, a required Baseline Characteristics screen appears before onboarding. Fill in each field, then tap Continue to Onboarding. (Clinician-invited? Your clinician already set these, so you skip this.)

Why we ask

These aren't vanity fields. Each one changes how WellPath reads your health.

They set your reference ranges

A healthy resting heart rate, hemoglobin, or protein target isn't a single number for everyone. Age and biological sex determine the ranges your biomarkers, biometrics, and habits are scored against, so a “good” result means good for you.

They flag your risk

Some characteristics point to risk directly. Fitzpatrick skin type indicates higher or lower skin-cancer risk; certain ancestries carry higher genetic risk for specific conditions. WellPath uses these to decide what to watch more closely.

They drive screening cadence

Risk together with your age and sex informs when certain screenings come due, so the guidance you get is timed to you rather than a generic checklist.

They anchor your estimates early

Before you have blood labs and biometrics in the system, WellPath builds a starting estimate of your biology from population data anchored to your characteristics. The more accurate these are, the closer that first picture is. It sharpens further as your real data comes in.

What we collect

Seven quick fields, each doing real work.

Date of birth: your age, which shifts nearly every reference range as you move through life.

Biological sex: male or female. It sets sex-specific ranges for hormones, hematology, and lipids. This is your biology for scoring, and is separate from gender identity.

Race & ethnicity: entered as an ancestry mix (you can add more than one). It informs genetic risk and some reference ranges.

Skin type (Fitzpatrick): a quick I-to-VI self-assessment of how your skin burns and tans. It drives skin-cancer risk and sun-protection guidance.

Height & weight: your BMI and body-composition indices, plus personalized nutrition targets.

Athlete status: turn this on for structured competitive training. It shifts protein targets, body-composition benchmarks, and recovery ranges. When in doubt, leave it off.

Where you set it

This is the one onboarding step that differs by how you joined.

Invited by a clinician

Your clinician entered your characteristics when they created your account, so you won't see this step. You can review and change them anytime in Personal Info › Health Profile.

On your own (solo)

A short required popup appears before you start your baselines. Fill it in once to continue. You can update any of it later in Personal Info › Health Profile.

Nothing here is locked in. Your body changes, and so can these. Update them anytime and your scores and targets adjust to match.
